Ask the students to work in groups first to discuss these questions and share each other’s knowledge.Then on the basis ot the group discussion, ask each of them to write a short descriptive essay in two or three paragraphs.In carrying out this assignment it is desirable to advise your students to depend upon their ears alone.Do not look at what they are describing; close the eyes or turn the other way and just listen. Many topics are possible-they may listen to street noises, or they could describe the pre-concert sounds at a symphony performance, the sounds in a park, or the noise ot caroenters at work.The Lead-in activity should take no more than 30 minutes.
